DANCING IN THE DARK | SNOWBLIND EYES
DANCING IN THE DARK | Creativity & Culture in Aberdeen by Jon Reid
Snowblind Eyes by Catherine Ross at Newave Gallery
” A few months back I sat down with painter Catherine Ross to discuss work in her latest exhibition ‘Snowblind Eyes’ which took place at Newave Gallery in Aberdeen. Since graduating from Grays School of Art Catherine has been appearing in group shows up and and down the country with work in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Newcastle and London. The Newave show marks the first solo show from this talented painter so it seemed like a good point to take stock of where Catherine’s ideas have evolved from and where she might go next!”

VAU present the ‘Pillow Talk: Inspirations’
‘Inspirations’is the second in a series of discussion events hosted by artists invited by VAU, to engage with the public on a number of issues surrounding contemporary art.
The event was held in the Event Space at Drygate Brewery in Glasgow and focused on the varied interests, expertise and inspiration of artists not necessarily a list of their favourite artists and influences – but more what interests them in general, be it music, fiction, travel, film, philosophy, politics, sport, food…anything! The guest speakers featured Catherine Ross, Ade Adesina, Rachel Maclean and Graham Fagen.

Yellowknife
I am about to re-visit the place of my birth, Yellowknife, Canada.
I have always, perhaps instinctively, felt the need to go back there. It is as if ‘Yellowknife’, the place, has left its imprint upon me.
Within my new work I hope to explore and communicate ideas to do with having a strong bond with a place, and also feelings of ‘existence’ within wilderness in an intimate and more intense way. I will continue to make work in an attempt to somehow encounter, or recover my experiences of northern wilderness.
